- What is Deaf Culture?
Deaf culture is a culture made up of community members who primarily use American Sign Language. It contains many resources for parents. Deaf people worldwide have supportive networks, schools, deaf theater, deaf visual arts, a rich history and heritage as well as deaf literature including ASL storytelling, narratives and poetry. Many community colleges and universities offer coursework in Deaf culture. Many large metropolitan areas have Deaf cultural festivals, deaf art exhibits, ASL storytelling and deaf theater. There are many commercially published DVDs, CDs, multimedia, textbooks, novels, plays, fiction and non-fiction, which describe and celebrate the culture of deaf people.
